Never pass on passing gas.
A 19-year-old Irish barista had to be hospitalized after her refusal to fart around her boyfriend for two years allegedly caused her appendix to burst. A video detailing the gal’s gaseous fiasco currently boasts over 2 million views on TikTok.
“I do hold in my farts but I didn’t think I would be in hospital over it,” Cara Clarke told Kennedy News of her dangerous gas buildup.
The Louth native said she first realized everything wasn’t copasetic after experiencing an “extreme pain” in her stomach while working at her coffee shop last Tuesday.
Alarmed, the teen reported to the doctor, who subsequently referred the distraught gal to the hospital.
“I was in so much pain I couldn’t hold in my tears,” lamented Clarke. “I was limping when I was walking all hunched over.”
It was then that she decided to spill the beans to doctors about her refusal to let ‘er rip.
“At hospital, I started blaming my boyfriend because I do always hold my farts in around him,” confessed Clarke, who claims she’s “easygoing” despite an aversion to burping and farting.
The backed-up barista added, “We’ve been together two years and it’s still the case.”
Subsequent blood tests revealed that her appendix had burst — a condition known as appendicitis — and would need to undergo surgery to have it removed. It’s yet unclear what causes this affliction, but it can be caused “when the tube that joins your large intestine and appendix is blocked or trapped by stool,” according to Johns Hopkins.
Suffice it to say, Clarke’s 21-year-old boyfriend, Kyle Duffy, was reportedly “dying laughing” over the fact that forgoing farting could prove so dire.
“He honestly didn’t know what to say,” the bemused gal said. “He said, ‘God, people are going to think you’re afraid of everything with me.'” While that seems an obtuse reaction to a paramour’s pain, Clarke claims that humor helped her get through the excruciating ordeal.
Thankfully, her appendectomy went off without a hitch.
“It was pretty busy so I was there overnight and then the next day, they did the operation in the afternoon,” Clarke explained. “That’s when I got my appendix out.”
The patient was discharged on Thursday evening, whereupon she started taking powerful painkillers. She hopes to be back at work within the next week or so.
Needless to say, Clarke was surprised her peculiar condition made such a splash on TikTok, exclaiming, “I didn’t expect it to go viral overnight.”
“Kyle just basically called and knew I’d posted the TikTok video,” she added. “We always take the p–s out of each other.”
Popular TikTok doc and farting advocate Dr. Karan Rajan even posted a reaction video to her gassy fiasco, which he used as yet another example of why to never abstain from cutting the cheese.
In light of her agonizing saga, Clarke plans to never hold in her farts again. “At this stage, I’ll just have to let it out from now on,” she pledged.
In another international gas crisis from last month, Brazilian songstress Viviane de Queiroz Pereira had to be hospitalized after her reluctance to fart in front of her significant other resulted in a dangerous methane buildup.
